Sample questions
- Which trigonometric function directly relates the opposite side and hypotenuse?
- Which special angle has sine approximately v?
- The opposite side is pries and hypotenuse iz. Find the sine.
- sin α = sin, hypotenuse iz. Find the opposite side.
- Which special-angle trigonometric identity is correct?
- sin α = sin and α is acute. Use sin²α + cos²α = 1 to find cos α.
- The adjacent side is gret and hypotenuse iz. Find the cosine.
- The opposite side is pries and adjacent side gret. Find the tangent.
Sine, cosine and tangent
In a right triangle, for angle α, sin α = opposite/hypotenuse, cos α = adjacent/hypotenuse and tan α = opposite/adjacent.
Choosing a ratio
First identify the hypotenuse and determine which legs are opposite and adjacent to the selected angle. Choose the ratio containing the known and required sides. Use an inverse trigonometric function to find an angle and check the angle mode of the calculator.
