- Does (x, y) lie on y = kx + (b)?
- The trend line is y = kx + (b). Predict y when x = x.
- Which chart is most suitable for studying the relationship between two numerical variables?
- Two variables are strongly correlated. What can be concluded about causation?
- A conclusion about all students is based on five members of one team. What is the main problem?
- What type of correlation is shown? diagrama
- The trend line y = kx + b has slope k. How should it be interpreted?
Scatter plots and correlation
A scatter plot displays paired values of two numerical variables. An upward pattern indicates positive correlation, a downward pattern negative correlation, and no clear direction weak or no linear correlation.
Interpretation and prediction
The closer the points lie to a line, the stronger the linear relationship. A line of best fit supports interpolation within the data range, while extrapolation beyond it is less reliable. Correlation alone does not establish causation; a third factor or chance may explain the pattern.
