Addition within 10
Addition tells how many objects there are after joining two groups or adding new objects. The + symbol means “add”, and = introduces the result, called the sum.
How to add
Start at the first addend and count forward as many steps as the second addend shows. Addends may change places without changing the sum. In a word problem, phrases such as “more”, “altogether” and “in total” often indicate addition. Check that the result is no greater than 10.
