Subtraction within 10
Subtraction tells how many objects remain after some are taken, given away or removed. The − symbol means “subtract”, and the result is called the difference.
How to subtract
Start at the first number and count backward by the amount being subtracted. In a word problem, phrases such as “taken”, “gave away”, “burst” and “left” help identify subtraction. This test never subtracts more than the starting amount, so results are not negative. Check an answer by adding the removed amount back to the difference.
