Powers and scientific notation

In aⁿ, a is the base and n gives the number of equal factors. When multiplying powers with the same base, add exponents; for division, subtract them; for a power raised to a power, multiply exponents.

Scientific notation

Write a number as a × 10ⁿ, where 1 ≤ |a| < 10. A positive exponent moves the decimal point right and a negative one moves it left. Check the sign of a negative number and the role of parentheses separately.
