Proportional division, mixtures and solutions

To divide a quantity in the ratio a : b, first add the ratio parts and divide the total quantity by this sum. Multiply the value of one part by a and b.

Mixture problems

The amount of pure substance equals the total solution amount multiplied by its concentration as a decimal. When solutions are mixed, amounts of pure substance are added, but concentrations are not added directly. Preserve total mass or volume in the equation and express all percentages consistently.
